about

Porcelain was written in response to the beginnings of the "me too" movement, and features Naomi Higgins, Colleen Allen, and Alex Samaras navigating the unfriendly parts of the patriarchy and its gaze.

lyrics

Too outlandish in a dress
Too conservative in vests
Hard enough to play it cool
It ain't enough to say “me too”

I dressed to kill with looks that turn you into stone and
I don't make promises that don't return you home and
I won't tell your wife that you don't get it

I'm not made of porcelain so you can break me
I'm so much stronger than I look to be
I never wanted you this close to me
So instead of moving in, just let me be

Say too much to fill the air
Keep your eyes from drifting elsewhere
Didn't come here wanting trouble
So I'll be leaving on the double

I dressed to kill with looks that turn you into stone and
I promise all your indiscretions will be known and
I don't have to tell your wife that you don't get it

I'm not made of porcelain so you can break me
I'm so much stronger than I look to be
I never wanted you this close to me
So instead of moving in, just let me be

I don't pay rent in this world with lovers I have caught
I don't gain success by being something that I'm not
I deserve to have a peaceful drink
I don't care what it is you think you do
I'm not here for you

I'm not made of porcelain so you can break me
I keep on saying no 'til you believe me
I'm so much stronger than I look to be
So just take the opening and
Let me be
